News
So I had a preexisting database of U.S. state, city, town and village names, and I was looking for something useful to do with database, so I made a news search. You choose a state, like Alaska, and a list of towns, cities, villages comes up. Then click on Anchorage (or any place else), and the website submits a search for 10 current news articles for the words "Anchorage Alaska". The page then displays the headline, part of the lead paragraph and other information about the story. The headline is a link to the actual article.
The city and state listings are all in a database, and the articles are fetched from a google search and returned to the website via an XML page. The XML page is parsed and formatted to look like it does for the user.
It seems to be working fairly well, I am working on a way to further narrow down the search results so the user can choose a lot more specific parameters for the kind of searches they want. The only interesting returns are those that come as a result of common place names. Like Willow, Alaska pops up a story about Will Smith. There's also returns of stories that have place names briefly in the article, but that will soon be fixed.

EAS Alerts
---The Fairbanks Police Department along with the Alaska State Troopers have issued a warning for those living within in a mile 10 mile radius of Ballaine Lake and Farmer's Loop Rd.. Residents are advised to remain in their homes or in a place of safety until further notice.---
I've been getting calls every half-hour or so asking me if we've been airing the EAS alerts.
There have been helicopters flying over my office (which is on campus) to the North. I tried calling the FPD PIO, and I got put on a contact list. He said he wasn't making any comments at the moment, but when he does, everyone on the list will be called at the same time. Like a conference call.
I also called FMH about the guy in his truck, but they said they never received a patient with a bite wound to the neck. I wonder if they took him on base?

Good God!
When I got in to work, there were 7 EAS alerts waiting. Holy crap, something big is going on. I'll update more when I find out more.

WTF is going on?
OMG I'm freaking out.
As I was walking to work this afternoon, I saw a woman get hit by a truck on her bicycle a little bit before Balaine lake. I was like "WTF was that?!". The guy in the truck did stop, but the weirdest thing happened.
People were gathered around her, and then all of a sudden they all backed up in surprise. I was across the street by Army road, so I had a good view. The lady totally jumped up and took a chunk out of the truck drivers neck. He starts screaming, and covers his neck which was shedding blood pretty bad. The lady stands up and runs in to Ballaine trail head.
So the guy with the big gaping wound in his neck, gets in to his truck and drives off. I have no idea where the hell to woman went, but her bike was still in the middle of the road, and there was a nice pool of blood.
We heard sirens and thought the cops and ambulance were coming our way, they're right at UAF afterall. But the Sirens stopped short, so I start walking up the bike path a little bit, and damned if the truck the guy just took off in was plowed right in to the UAF sign on Tanana Loop. It's trashed.
After seeing what happened with the woman, I didn't go any further. I walked back home and grabbed the car. The cops still have the road completely blocked off.
I wonder WTF is going on?

...is to find a copy of Geraldo Rivera revealing American troop movements on Fox News.
Apparently, the video of Geralo Rivera revealing troop movements on a broadcast from Fox News is VERY difficult to find. He was thrown out of Iraq by the military for revealing troop positions on the sand.
Can anyone find a copy of this video?
It's a challenge!
